Joy Ride, live performance, 2015. Duration: 5 hours.

Sound Composer: Ack Kinmonth
Exhibition text:
Clark Beaumont’s participatory performance, Joy Ride, seeks to engage with the spectacle of the experience economy by constructing an intimate moment between the artists and the viewers. In the work, the viewer is invited to embrace one of the artists on a slowly rotating platform overlooking the Brisbane River, and take in their surroundings whilst an emotional soundtrack builds. Through employing sensorial elements, the artists attempt to live out (& provide) the normally inaccessible, yet glorified, immersive experience of a significant on-screen moment. However, the staged interaction proves problematic, binding sincerity with artificiality, connection with disconnection, and giving with using.
